Heather is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and their families from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. She has learned the importance of being culturally competent when working with children and teens of color while also seeing to understand the influence of their environment on their life experiences. She seeks to understand children and their families by broadening her own exposure to others and by approaching her work with intellectual curiosity about the people she serves and their worldview. As a psychologist, her goal is to empower and advocate for children while building upon their strengths.  She uses therapeutic strategies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychoeducation, and a Person-Centered and Strengths Based approach that focuses on empathy, active listening, and wellness. She provides family therapy and parenting education to help the whole family achieve stability and wellness. Heather is an active researcher studying early childhood development and joy in Black families. Outside of the therapy room, Heather enjoys pilates, burning candles, traveling, listening to music, and decorating her home.
